Meet the Cloudify Player – getting your apps on the cloud at the click of a button

We are excited to introduce to you the Cloudify Player, a lightweight widget that enables a quick and hassle-free way to demo new frameworks or deploy your apps on the HP Cloud or the cloud of your choice. All you have to do is click a button. Pretty cool, huh?

image

Open source project owners can embed the widget on their site, providing a simple test-drive experience for their users.

Here’s how it works. The user accesses the widget either directly through the Cloudify Player page or from the embedded widget on the project owner’s site. The user clicks the play button, and sits back, relaxes and watches their app deploy on their cloud of choice right before their eyes. Behind the scenes, the Player communicates with a widget server that manages a pool of virtual machines deployed on the cloud, each “bootstrapped” with a running Cloudify manager. When a user click the “Play” button, the server instantly borrows a VM from the pool, connects to the Cloudify manager that runs on it over REST, issuing the recipe installation command. The application or tool is then deployed and installed on the server, providing the user with a hassle-free demo.

The Cloudify Player takes you from simple trial to full production in a matter of minutes. Check it out today!

For more information about the Player, please see Uri Cohen’s blog post Introducing the Cloudify Player as well as Nati Shalom’s blog post Using the Cloudify Player as an Open Source Framework for Building Your Own Cloud Application Marketplace on OpenStack.

Send us your feedback and let us know if you have any questions.

Enjoy!

Feeling Groovy

image

A Groovy Kind of Java

Check out Sayeret Lambda’s upcoming meetup with Cloudify’s Barak Merimovich.

A domain-specific language (DSL) is a programming language or specification language dedicated to a particular problem domain, a particular problem representation technique, and/or a particular solution technique. Cloudify, the open-source PaaS stack, uses a Groovy-based DSL to define ‘recipes’ which include all of the information required to run a service in the cloud, including lifecycle, monitoring, scaling and more. The Groovy DSL is integrated into the Java based Cloudify stack.

In this talk Barak will discuss why we chose to use a DSL, and why Groovy specifically, and how the DSL is implemented.

Register today!

When: Tuesday, May 7th at 6:30 PM

Where: Google Campus Tel Aviv - Electra Tower, 98 Yigal Alon Street (26th Floor), Tel Aviv, Israel (map)

See you there!

How to Install a Recipe from the Cloudify Web GUI

In the next few days, we will launch Cloudify 2.5 with new and improved features and updates. One of those features is the recipe repository. It allows you to “mirror” any git repository, letting the Cloudify manager clone it to its local disk and expose all the recipes it contains using the web console. You can then browse these recipes directly from the web console, easily modify files and install services and applications with a single click.

Check out this short video to get a glimpse.

Hear what's new in OpenStack technology at OpenStack Israel May 27

Following the OpenStack Summit in Portland this April, the OpenStack discussion continues in Israel on May 27th, 2013. The 3rd OpenStack Israel is a one-day event featuring latest updates and case studies in OpenStack technology. On the agenda for discussion will be the then-recent OpenStack Grizzly release, set for release on April 4th. A summary of the updates as well as the release notes are available online. Register now to join the event!

Key figures behind the event are OpenStack Foundation, IGT Cloud and GigaSpaces, with support from Rackspace, Red Hat, IBM and other international organizations. OpenStack Foundation’s Executive Director Jonathan Bryce will be a keynote speaker at the event, traveling to Israel to take part in the action. Bryce has spent his career building the cloud, having previously been a founder of the Rackspace Cloud. He has been a major driver of OpenStack, the open source cloud software initiative.

Mac Devine, Director and CTO, Cloud Portfolio, IBM Global Technology Services will also be a keynote speaker at this event. With IBM’s recent announcement of its shift towards open source cloud services and software through the use of OpenStack, OpenStack Israel is an excellent forum to discuss IBM’s move.

OpenStack Israel also welcomes Mark McClain of DreamHost’s Cloud Team who will travel to Israel to speak at the event.

The OpenStack Israel Committee is a group of technology and management professionals with years of experience as strategists, developers, bloggers and leaders in the cloud space. The team members are Nati Shalom of GigaSpaces, Avner Algom of IGT Cloud, Shlomo Swidler of Orchestratus, Uri Cohen of GigaSpaces, Koby Holzer of Liveperson and Samuel Bercovici of Radware.

Call for Papers is open until April 15. If you would like to speak at OpenStack Israel’s third conference, submit your proposal today.

Following the event, a three day training session will be held by StackOps Technologies, a native OpenStack company. In this training, attendees will be introduced to the latest OpenStack cloud software Grizzly release and learn how to deploy their own OpenStack environment. Sign up to secure your spot in the training.

Looking forward to a great event!

Below are some slides from the last OpenStack Israel event. Take a look!

Big Data Apps in the Cloud at New York's AWS User Group Meetup

Looking forward to Ali Hodroj’s presentation “Big Data Apps in the Cloud: What It Really Takes” tomorrow at NYC Amazon Web Services User Group’s meetup.

The event will be held Tuesday, March 19 at DUMBO Startup Lab (68 Jay St. Suite 718 Brooklyn, NY).

Abstract: The massive computing and storage resources that are needed to support big data applications make on-demand, elastic cloud environments an ideal fit. However, managing your big data app on the cloud is no walk in the park - configuration, orchestration, H/A, auto-scaling are all quite complex when it comes to choosing the right cloud for you, whether it’s public, private or a hybrid cloud - which is where Cloudify and Eucalyptus come together. In this session, you’ll learn how to deploy, manage, monitor and scale your big data apps on public clouds such as EC2 and private clouds such as the open source Eucalyptus cloud platform, as well as easily test drive your apps locally and then migrate the workload to Amazon Web Services EC2.

To register, follow this link: http://www.meetup.com/AWSnewyork/events/107771492/

Hope to see you there!

How to configure the EC2 cloud driver in Cloudify

Cloudify can run in your cloud environment out of the box, with no need for any special integration.

All you need to do is to download and unzip the Cloudify distribution zip, and then set the Cloudify cloud driver file that corresponds to the cloud provider that you use.  It’s that simple.

Here’s a short tutorial video that demonstrates how easy it is to configure the EC2 Cloud driver in Cloudify - and you can of course do this with any cloud.

Feel free to ping us if you have any questions.
